Secret settings in Windows 10 get unchained

The Windows registry is a hierarchical database stored in an extensive, usually impassable settings file that safely covers all possible aspects of the operating system and applications operating on a computer. Although there are a lot of configuration settings hidden from the user, yet some of them can be used in order to tweak and customize Windows in a variety of ways. In order to edit the registry, Windows users need to type “regedit” into the search box, displayed in the taskbar, and then launch the application listed. These edits are risky so make sure that you don’t run into serious problems after playing with secret settings. The Regedit utility is simple to use; just click twice on folders to open them or values them. After this, create new keys with a right click and value accordingly. Make sure, you take a backup of the registry in advance by choosing File and then Export from the Regedit menus. Then try these 5 steps:

  1. Facilitate the dark theme: In Windows 10, there is a hidden dark theme navigated to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Themes. Just create a Personalised key and a new DWORD value “AppsUseLightTheme” and leave the value as 0. Do again the process for HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Themes. Remove the two AppsUseLightTheme DWORD values to go back to the light theme.
  2. Accelerate startup times: If you don’t have many Windows apps, you can save some seconds through the boot up process. Just go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Serialize and create StartupDelayInMSec, a new DWORD value. Then, set it to 0. Also delete the Serialize key to revert it back.
  3. Enhance task bar transparency: You can do it through the Personalisation section of Settings. To have more transparency, tweak the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Advanced. Then create a UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency DWORD value and set it to 1. Remove the value to undo the changes.
  4. Stop the login image: There is a default hero image in Windows that can be made disabled. Just go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Policies\ Microsoft\ Windows\ System and create a new DWORD value DisableLogonBackgroundImage and set its value to 1.
  5. Hide OneDrive from File Explorer: Hide OneDrive entry in the navigation pane by opening HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ CLSID\ {018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}. Double click on System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree and set the value to 0.

If these five suggestions are not let you tweak the registry, then take Microsoft support to make things happen in your favor.
